26 in 26: parkrun A-Z

To celebrate a decade since my first parkrun (2/1/16 at Bracknell), I am marking 10 years of my parkrunning habit by spending 2026 as a Saturday parkrun alphabeteer. 26 (A-Z) different venues in 2026! This adventure will also help to show some solidarity and raise some more funds for Christian Mission to Gaza and Gaza Baptist Church. Perhaps you may be able to give up to £26 (either in a one-off donation or spread over a few payments). 1. 23/8/25

Zuiderpark, Hoogeveen, The Netherlands

Position: 6th; Time: 22:25 (PB!)

Due to there currently being no Z parkrun in the UK, a holiday to The Netherlands in August 2025 is the first entry. 

At Zuiderpark parkrun in sunshine / A new 5k PB became mine / Just one second quicker / Than Brooklands last winter / Flat paths in the Netherlands so fine!                                                                                                                                                    Gary who finished fifth was a Brit / I could tell from his name and his kit / "Well done, well done!" I said / As his legs passed me sped / But I came sixth and didn't quit!                                                                                                                                                                    If my wife should come over all keen / Saying "revisit that Hoogeveen" / A trip to its windmill / Would fascinate me still / It was built in 1716!

I met a nice lady at Denbies / But she gave me the heebie-jeebies / For some fun near Box Hill / It once gave her a thrill / To turn dry cow pats into frisbees!

Position: 10th; Time: 23:44 

So many rounds at Egham Orbit / You need to be alert and with it / The motorway subway / Kept the drizzle at bay / But I'm still sat in my soggy kit.

Dinton Pastures, Berkshire, England

Position: 360th; Time: 33:21

At Dinton Pastures a big birthday / It was also her milestone day / Fifty years and parkruns / She ran with her loved ones / While the rest of us shouted "hooray!"

N.B. The limerick is not related to the photo! The man in the bright yellow jacket is my Dad. It was neither his birthday nor a milestone run today. We have both amassed the same amount of parkruns, 288 each so far, but he has visited more locations. He introduced me to running when I was a child and to parkrun about ten years ago.

Brooklands milestoners get a cape / Over their shoulders and necks to drape / Two hundred and ten more / Is what I'm running for / Five hundred bound and there's no escape!

Haldon Forest, Devon, England

Position: 26th; Time: 23:42

We did parkrun at Haldon Forest / Where the hills are some of the steepest / Rhododendron tunnel / To the finish funnel / One more done on my alphabet quest.

7. 7/3/26

Lloyd, Croydon, Surrey, England

Position: 13th; Time: 24:11 (1st in VM45-49 age category!)

There was a loud woodpecker at Lloyd / Whose drumming sound I really enjoyed / Parkland to admire / The hill a quagmire / But yellow arrows were well deployed.

Ifield Mill Pond, Crawley, Sussex, England

Position: 11th; Time: 23:04

One's view of Ifield Mill Pond depends / On whether one enjoys hairpin bends / I am glad I did learn / The "Japanese U-turn" / A pivot technique one recommends.

9. 28/3/26

The Plens, Desborough, Northamptonshire, England

Position: 5th; Time: 23:05

The Plens parkun includes "the Bowl" / Where the biting headwind did howl / Up twenty three small steps / Moving the quadriceps / Onwards and upwards towards the goal.
